One day I browsed the Internet and found that you can get a more than 200 games on one Gamboy cartridge from a company called Gameboymulticarts.com. So, I dished out about $70.00 and purchased a cartridge. The cartridge came after more than ten days from Thailand, and it was a DOA (dead on arrival), it played fine, but you cannot save any of the progresses of the games you played; therefore, you had to start from the very beginning everytime. This makes the cartridge useless -- I do not believe anyone can play a game from the very beginng to the very end in one session. Hence, I sent an email to the company and asked them what to do. There was no response. Then I sent another email message, still no response. I had no choice but filed a complaint with Paypal. This Paypal complaint finally caught their attention. Here is their reponse:
Paypal contacted us about a dispute you have claimed. We have no information about your complaint or did not recieve your email stating your complaint. Please contact us so we can find out how to help you in resolving your dispute. We have a good reputation in solving any problem that arises. Refunds or replacements are possibilities. I thank you for your time and hope to see your reply shortly.

I responded:
Below are the communications I had with your company, I waited for a whole week before I file the complain with Paypal. The multicart you sent me cannot save any progress of any game. If you try to save it, the next time you start the same game again, the saved information was either "automatically deleted" or "corrupted". I like your product, but if I cannot save the progress of any game on the multicart, then the cartridge is useless.
I would like to know if I send the cartridge back to your company (1) who is going to pay for the postage and do I have use registered mail; (2) the value I need to claim on the custom form; (3) can you guarantee me that the replacement cartridge will work as expected, i.e., I can save the progress of some of the games; if it cannot save game's progress, I would like to have a refund I do not want to try and error like this time.
Thank you.
then Gameboymulticarts.com responded:
I got the email about the defect. Due to ruff handling during post the cartridge can get damaged or can malfunction. If its not possible to
fix, you can return the cartridge to us, and we will send you a new one; free of cost. All carts are tested before they leave our shop,
and if there are any problems there are not shipped out.
What you could try is the following; this is the only long distance advise we can give to fix a problem that happens a lot due to rough
handling in transit: Sometimes the chip has been moved a fraction of a millimeter, and the GBA consule does not read the microchip in it anymore. Take the cartridge and slap it soflty; not too soft; on a flat surface, with the open side down, the side that goes down into the GBA.
By this the information chip can sick back to its original position and the GBA consule reads the cartridge fine. A tip you can use on
malfunctioning single game cartridges as well. If that does not work, no need to try it agian. The address to return the defective game is:
K. Donnersly

It seemed these guys in Gameboymulticarts.com were reasonable. Therefore, I tried to tap the multicart cartridge on a flat surface and it did not work. As a result, I have to send it back to Gameboymulticarts.com. So, I emailed Gameboymulticarts.com again, and again to tell them that I need to send it back, finally I got their attention, and here is their response (May 30th)
I am sorry, I was not aware you had a second and third contact with our company and will investigate why you did not recieve a reply back on your questions. A defect is possible, that is why we have the option of free replacement cartridges. I hope you can understand we can not test every single game and save option on every cartridge. The replacement will be tested, may it act up as well you can get a refund.. Normally for the costs a customer makes for postage back to us, we send them a free single game cartridge with the replacement. May after this still the customer be unsatisfied, the option of a refund is still open. We do believe in a good customer service, I am sorry you did not had a reply back; the start of a good customer service is the reply of questions. Please return the cartridge to us so we can determine the damage and replace it with a functioning cartridge.

So, I bought a padded envelop and sent it back to Gameboymulticarts.com the next day, it cost me about $4.00 (envelop plus postage and the labor was free). After two weeks, nothing happened; therefore, I sent them another email, they responded that they "just" received the returned cartridge and they would send the replacement out right away, now it is June 14th.
This afternoon I got word from the postal employee that he has recieved the cartridge you returned to us. It will be checked by the tech staff and the replacement plus a gift will be posted out to you as soon as possible, hopefully tomorrow already. You will get an email with the details as soon as it is posted.
Kind regards,
James
I guess if did not send Gameboymulticarts.com an email, the postman would never arrive. On June 21 James wrote
We experienced the same problems with the cartridges in stock as the problem you had, appearantly the internal battery is empty. We get the replacements tomorrow. Do you have any perticular wish for the free single cartridge? Please let me know and it will be posted out together with the working 225.
Kind regards,
James
Before I had a chance to reply, Gameboymulticarts.com posted the replacement cartridge with a single game cartridge "The Wild" on JUne 25, this so called free game is a game that no one wants -- you can go to Ebay and find out yourself. The package arrived on July 7 and it was still a DOA. So, I sent them another email, no response; then another email and they finally reponded on July 12
It is embarrassing, that is what it is.. Sorry i reacted late but i had to resolve an argument with the postal employee's. How is it possible to post to you two cartridges that do not work... It is incredibly unprofessional. I am sorry. Please keep the single game as a gift and an excuse. Yes, you can send us the malfunctioning game back and you will get a refund. I would love to make sure you will get a working 225, but i can emagine you have no trust in our company anymore. I can assure you that this does not happen. That one or two cartridges have been defective, that can happen, but two to the same customer; after i asked them to check the replacement is new for me and that in over 6 years.
The choice is up to you about a refund or a replacement, the only thing i can promise that one will work. There would be people losing their job if it did not. I am stunned by the casual actions of the staff and there has been quite a bit of debating since i recieved your email. Again from all of, our excuses.

I was too kind to believe Gameboymulticarts.com and James' lie -- promised that one will work or someone will lose his/her job if it did not. So, I said go ahead and send another one -- I was really curious about if they can actually produce a working game cartridge. I mailed the cartridge back the next day. After four emails and 12 days, they finally decided they had received the returned cartridge, note that they told me DON'T send the free single game cartridge back, it was a free gift.
The parcel arrived this morning and this afternoon the new cartridge has been posted. After it been tested on the pokemon games etc. I had to choose the replacement option as i and my boss believe in happy customers. You lost quite a bit of money due to posting, so did we, plus the free gift it does not leave a lot of profit. This is not the point for us. Happy customers are returning customers. Internet complaints are not to be deleted and word to mouth is our goal. This is the reason why we opted to post you out a working cartridge, checked personally. I understand your concerns and your actions fully, if i buy something on the net it has to be good or else... And due to some email battles and long streched problems we know what it is to recieve some decent customer support.
The registered posting number is RC595574133TH.
I hope this will make you or your kids happy players. I am sorry for the month delay but hope now it all will be okay in the end.
Kind regards,
James
The so called multicart arrived on August 5 with another so called "free single game." Again, it was a DOA. Therefore, I sent it back again and telling Gameboymulticarts.com about the return and kept the "free" game. After there was no news for about two weeks and many emails, I finally got a response like this
It is a shame to get the mistrust like this. From the start that this problem came up i have been nothing than helpfull i think. The last time the cartridge was sent to you, i personally checked if the save function worked on my own NDS, and it worked fine. We at GameboyMulticarts do not wash our hands (well we do before dinner), and it is not nice to get blamed for it. I hope you understand. Untill now i have not heard the cartridge has arrived. The postal times to Thailand can vairy a lot.
My company put quite a bit of efford and money (posting and free games) to try to make you a satisfied customer. Why the multicart refuses to save on your GBA is a mistery. Sometimes things do not work out, sometimes people just do not want a product that comes from south east Asia.
When i get word from Kevin i will contact you.
Regards,
James
Finally, on August 30, Gameboymulticarts.com refunded me $46.97 and the two so called "free" single games (because no one wants them on Ebay) Gameboymulticarts.com sent me for my inconvenience turned out would cost me $12.50 each and here is their reponse after they admitted that they could not deliver a working multicart game
Due to the long trail of problems we want to return the money you paid to us. The amount you paid was 62.97 USD and you spend aprox 9 USD on posting costs. We gave you two free single games with a price of 12.50 USD each. Add and deduct these prices, it comes to 46.97 and this we return to you (and we pay the paypal costs to recieve it). The owner made this decision after the reading the documents and emails.

I finally wrote the following email message to close this misfornate misadvanture
Dear Kevin and James:
I never knew that I was dealing with someone who do not understand what the English word "free" means -- kind of illiterate. To you two,
"free" means $12.50 each for the so called worthless free gifts -- and no one wants these gifts on Ebay. Someone did not wash his hands
after he used the restroom and got sticky fingers and someone washed his hands too clean and ate James' "free gift" words.
I understand that you need to make money to survive, but when you cannot deliver a functional product after three times, you should have
swallowed the costs and not behaving like irresponsible American scum backs -- if something goes wrong, it is always someone else's fault
and you do not have to be responsible for the product you are selling. So pitiful.
Boys and girls, the lessons I learned from this purchase of multicart game are (1) if the product is defective, you should return it and ask for refund immediately, especially if the company is located somewhere outside of the US; (2) don't ever listen to any thing sales person tells you, mostly likely, they are liers.; (3) don't ever buy multicarts from Gameboymulticarts.com, they will never work.
